Land Conservancy of West Michigan Illustration
About a year ago, I was approached by the Communications Specialist at the Land Conservancy of West Michigan, Marie Orttenburger. Marie was interested in hiring an artist to create a hand drawn illustration for an interpretive sign at Saul Lake Prairie just outside of Grand Rapids, Michigan. I had a blast designing a proposal that suited the unique needs of the sign. Thank you to the Land Conservancy for keeping the project local!
The interpretive sign is installed in a former field which is now converted back into native prairie land- see more history and conservation facts about the site here: https://naturenearby.org/portfolio_page/explore/saul-lake-bog-nature-preserve/
The finished illustrations were digitally scanned and the final composition created using Adobe Suite software.
The final sign design was printed with Pannier Graphics on a low profile cantilevered base and installed among wild coneflowers, grasses, and bluebirds. See more from Pannier here: https://panniergraphics.com/

The interpretive sign provides visitors with education about the history of the site as well as the importance of controlled burns and other methods of promoting and caring for the native species in the area.
